Each of the Mandarin House locations vary in atmosphere. The Merchants
Road location is superior to the Gleason/Downtown West location.
The Merchants location is very casual and the dining room as well as the
entrance are surrounded by salt water aquariums. The Gleason/Downtown
West location is also casual but appears more upscale. Mandarin House
has been voted as Knoxville's best Chinese Buffet for the past 9 years.
The selection is great, the quality is great and the food is great.
I think probably this is an Americanized version of Chinese food, but nevertheless
it is rather enjoyable. You will find everything from Hot & Sour
Soup to dessert on the buffet. Crab cheese puffs, General Tso's Chicken,
Peppered beef, fish, green beans, Broccoli Tempura, Sweet and Sour Pork,
and all u can drink soft drinks and tea. The Merchants location also
hosts a bar with Chinese Beer selections. Visit today and discover
why nobody can compare to the Mandarin House selections.
Based on recent visits to Mandarin House, it appears as if most locations are not be well maintained. The Merchants Rd. location appeared very unkept, fish aquariums were coated in green algae and the restaurant is showing wear. The owners are apparently giving all their attention to their newer concepts to include Ginza Japan on Downtown West Blvd. Health Inspection scores are also a major issue. On the buffet.......Mongolian Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Sweet & Sour pork, Moo Goo Gai Pan, General Tso's Chicken, Oriental Beef Stew, Chicken w/garlic sauce, vegetable lo mein, broccoli beef, salad bar, seasonal fruits, and a whole lot more.
